St. Vincent and The Grenadines
St. Vincent and The Grenadines (SVG) are English-speaking islands in the Eastern Caribbean that are under one set of governing laws. All matters pertaining to the adoption of children from St. Vincent and The Grenadines are reviewed and approved by the Adoption Committee of SVG, as well as the Family Court of St. Vincent and The Grenadines.
Children who become available for adoption are either placed by the Adoption Committee of SVG in government approved and supervised foster homes or in private foster homes that are approved by the Adoption Committee of SVG until the adoptions are finalized. Then, the adoptions are processed under the auspices of the Adoption Committee and are approved by the Family Court.
Creative Adoptions, Inc. is very honored to have the privilege of being able to work with the adoption authorities of SVG, including adoption attorneys in SVG, to provide a full range of pre- and post-adoption support services to prospective adoptive families who are desirous of adopting a child from SVG!
** Couples or single mothers are eligible.
** The minimum age is 21 for couples and 25 for singles. There is no official maximum age limit. Applicants ages 50 and older are assessed on a case-by-case basis
** Previous divorce(s) is/are acceptable.
** There is no length of marriage requirement.
** After the adoption is complete, formal post adoption reports with photos are required for 1 year: one at 3, 6 and 12 months after you come home with your child(ren). In addition, families need to submit self-reports annually thereafter – starting from the 2nd year post-adoption until the child reaches 18 years of age.
** Children typically available for adoption are between infancy and 8 years of age.
**Some of the children referred for international adoption are wards of the state. Others are children who have been identified by prospective adoptive parents independently and who are engaging in a parent-initiated adoption.
** Families are required to make a minimum of 2 trips to SVG. The purpose of the first trip is for the family to meet the child(ren) identified, if the child is referred by the Adoption Committee, and to confirm acceptance and formally submit their application to the Adoption Committee and ultimately to petition the Family Court for the approval to adopt the child. Note: In parent-initiated adoptions, the child is usually already known to the prospective adoptive parent(s). The purpose of the 2nd trip is either to attend the court hearing along with the attorney, if their physically presence is not waived; take physical custody of the child(ren); obtain post-court documents once the adoption is finalized in court, and do the post-adoption activities that result in the issuance of the visa for the child by the U.S. Embassy in Barbados which has jurisdiction over SVG.
** Once the adoption process can begin, it is currently taking approximately 3 to 6 months for the adoption to be finalized, and the post-adoption paperwork and visa for your child obtained.
** Full in country support services are provided while you are in both SVG and Barbados. You are met at the airport at your point of entry and representatives are available to you throughout your entire in country stay.
