St. Vincent and The Grenadines (SVG) are English-speaking islands in the Eastern Caribbean that are under one set of governing laws. All matters pertaining to the adoption of children from St. Vincent and The Grenadines are reviewed and approved by the Adoption Board, as well as the High Court of St. Vincent and The Grenadines.
There are no orphanages/children’s homes in St. Vincent and The Grenadines. All children who become available for adoption are placed by the Adoption Board of the SVG in loving and caring government approved and supervised foster homes until the adoptions are finalized. Then, the adoptions are processed under the auspices of the Adoption Board and are approved by the courts.
Creative Adoptions, Inc. is very honored to have the privilege of being able to partner with the the Adoption Board of St. Vincent and The Grenadines to provide a full range of pre- and post-adoption support services to prospective adoptive families who are desirous of adopting a child from SVG!
** Couples or single mothers are eligible.
** The minimum age is 21 for couples and 25 for singles. There is no official maximum age limit. Applicants ages 50 and older are assessed on a case-by-case basis
** Previous divorce(s) is/are acceptable.
** There is no length of marriage requirement.
** After the adoption is complete, formal post adoption reports with photos are required by SVG for 1 year: one at 3, 6 and 12 months after you come home with your child(ren) and one at 12 months. In addition, families need to submit self-reports annually thereafter – starting from the 2nd year post-adoption until the child reaches 18 years of age.
** Children typically available for adoption are between infancy and 8 years of age.
** SVG does not have orphanages/children’s homes. Children are placed in foster care once the birth family makes an adoption plan.
**Most of the children referred for international adoption are wards of the state. However, there occasionally are private adoption cases that are presented.
** Families are required to make a minimum of 2 trips to SVG: with the purpose of the first trip to meet the child(ren) identified, confirm acceptance and formally petition the courts to adopt the child; and with the purpose of the 2nd trip typically occurring once the adoption is finalized, to pick up your child(ren) and do the post-adoption activities that result in the issuance of the visa for the child by the U.S. Embassy in Barbados which has jurisdiction over SVG.
** Once the adoption process can begin, it is currently taking approximately 4 to 6 months for the adoption to be finalized, the post-adoption paperwork and visa for your child obtained.
** Full in country support services are provided while you are in both SVG and Barbados. You are met at the airport at your point of entry and representatives are available to you throughout your entire in country stay.
